Dogs

We raise dogs, they are our children. We have three Bearded Collies and had one Portuguese Water Dog.

Here Dottie our 13  year old Beardie earns her UD (Utility Dog) award. This is one of the highest awards a dog competing in obedience can earn, of course the trainer enjoys it also.

Did I say obedient? Oh well, dogs will be dogs and when not performing in the show ring, she likes to destroy her toys!.

How can you be mad at a dog with eyes like these?

Happy Birthday Dottie

Dear Dottie passed away peacefully on August 5, 2004.

Bridgette, our Portuguese water dog, also turned 13 in April of 2005, but unfortunately died in November, 2005.

Here I am with all four ladies. On the left is Bridgette, a Portuguese Water Dog, then there are Dottie,  Pumpkin and finally Silly Tilly.

The girls even try to help bring in the hay - you bet!

Even the Kids fight over who will drive. (Tilly, L and Pumpkin, R)

The New Kid on the Block - Rusty

  8 weeks         6 months

Rusty at one year old and changing colors as most beardies do. She continues to be a real delight!

Rusty during a herding trial at 18 months of age - perfect flight and landing!

Herding Bull ?

Now that you have been introduced to herding and working dogs, let us show you an Brangus bull named Flapper. He is not a herd sire for the beef program, and has subsequently been sold to a friend, he used to reside in the sheep pen. He watched Elsa herd sheep every day. He picked up a few pointers and loves to herd the sheep - really!

The following pictures were not set up. This action took place spontaneously and I was lucky to have my camera in the truck when it began. The pictures below were taken in sequence. It was a stitch to watch.

Got them on the run.

Good, I have them in a corner now, I must walk them up along the fence.

That was really easy, I am getting the knack of this - I am so proud. Now I will work (chase)  them down to the other end of the pen.

Mission accomplished. Now to work them up along the fence and into that blue lane thingy.  I hope, I hope?

I did it! Maybe they will give me some more FOOD tonight. I really deserve it, no?

Note, I did this all without the help of a Shepard !

Seriously, how did I do?

Regards,

Flapper
